How does sales tax work with Repaint?
Last updated September 28, 2026
Repaint doesn’t calculate, collect, or file sales tax or VAT for you automatically. You’re responsible for the taxes that apply to your business. If you tell the AI which tax rules apply, it can add tax calculations to your checkout.
What you’re responsible for
Tax rules depend on where your business is, where your customers are, and what you sell. You decide whether you need to charge tax, how much, and to whom. You also handle registering with tax authorities and filing returns.
If you’re not sure what applies to you, you can ask the AI. It can explain the rules for where you’re based and what you sell, and help you figure out what you likely need to charge. For anything you’re unsure about, an accountant or your local tax authority can confirm.
Adding tax to your checkout
Once you know your rules, you can describe them to the AI and it builds them into your checkout. For example, it can charge a flat rate in your state or apply VAT in certain countries. Tax then shows up as its own line on the checkout and receipt.
Example prompts
“Charge 7.25% sales tax on orders shipping to California. Don’t charge tax anywhere else.”
“My prices include 20% UK VAT. Show the VAT amount separately on receipts.”
“Make me a dashboard showing how much tax I collected each month, broken down by state.”
Records and tax forms
Your orders and payments are saved in your workspace, so the AI can pull together the numbers you need at tax time. It can also export them as a CSV file to share with your accountant.
If you need tax forms related to your sales through Repaint, contact support rather than asking the AI.
